William Henley's Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers
states the following about the maker.
Villaume Gustave Eugène. Born Mirecourt 1899.
Pupil of Mougenot and Jacquent Gand. Wood, workmanship and general appearance eminently qualify this maker as highly successful in Guarnerian modeling. Oil varnish of clear yellow to dark reddish-brown.

1st. movement from Bach Partita in D minor.
Louis Charles Courtier was born at Mirecourt in 1878. He learnt his trade as a pupil of Joseph Aubry and then went on to set up his own workshops. This example of his work is in near mint condition, made from quality materials and with a fine tone to match. The back length is: 14 inches (35.5 cm.). Set up with quality rosewood fittings with Dominant strings and supplied in a new light weight case. A violin with a lovely balanced tone, smooth and with good clarity and depth. A splendid violin for player and collector!
