William Henley's Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers
states the following about the maker.
Amédée Dieudonne. Born 1890.
Pupil of Gustave Bazin. Worked for Darche at Brussels. Established at Mirecourt 1924. Splendid hand-made replicas of ancient violins, faithfully depicting all familiar elements; rich and sheeny reddish/yellow or bright red varnish.

An interesting 19th. century violin by Henry Thouvenel Violins by this maker have received much praise over the years, often favoured by orchestral players. This example has some repairs, this is the reason for the very low price for an instrument by this maker. There are some ancient crack repairs to the front but they do not cause any problems of affect the tone of the violin, there is also small rib repair. The one piece back is: 14.1/8 inches (35.8 cm.) long. Set up with Pro-Arte strings and supplied in a new case. Tonally excellent, with good balance and a warm sonorous bass sound. A chance to buy an early violin of character at a low price!
