Black Eyes.
The label is inscribed:
MARIO MACCAFERRI
Fece a CENTO Anno 1924

The instrument also carries a hand written label in Italian
An excellent instrument from the workshops of Mario Maccaferri, made in July 1924 at his workshops in Cento, North East Italy. Mario was a prize winner for one of his Cellos at an exhibition in Rome in 1927. In excellent condition apart from one repaired saddle crack on the right hand side, this does not affect the tone or structure of the violin, it is a lovely instrument with a warm patina to the orange/red oil varnish over a golden ground. The instrument has a two piece back, length is: 14.1/16 inches (35.7cm.) Set up with ebony fittings, Obligato strings and supplied in a new lightweight case. A violin with a rich balanced tone, good in the high positions and with plenty of volume. A very good violin!
