William Henley's Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers
states the following about the maker.
BAZIN Gustave born Mirecourt 1881.
Son of Charles Bazin, worked for Collin-Mezin. Surmounted all the insuperable difficulties of violin and cello making. Splendid examples of French work. Of service to the best orchestral players. Very commendable varnish. Died 1920.

and with the J.T.L. marque to the right


A nice instrument by the grandson of the original Geronimo Grandini who was a well known maker, he joined the J.T.L. workshops in 1920 and continued to make what became their top of the range model and sold under his original label, the instrument also has the J.T.L. label on the treble side. Back length is: 14.1/8 inches (35.8 cm.), rosewood fittings, new Pro-Arte strings and supplied in a new lightweight case. Condition is good, there are no repairs or damage but there are varnish imperfections that have been retouched. A violin with a lovely warm sonorous tone, well balanced and with good volume. A violin with excellent clarity and good response, These violins are becoming hard to find!
