A rare and beautiful instrument from a little known maker Joseph Scurol who spent most of his life in the southern French town of Montauban where he had his workshops. In 1934 he won the gold medal with this violin in the "Exposition des Maitres" (Exhibition of master craftsmen) at the "Artisans Toulouse Région" The instrument is labelled but also hand written inside on the upper back with the details of the Exhibition and it is also branded J.Scurol inside and below the button. The two piece back length is: 14 inches, (35.6 cm). The violin has just been set up with Dominant strings and is supplied in a new lightweight case. This violin is a delight to play, it has a deep powerful bass with a full treble sound, a rich and splendid tone. Recommended!
