William Henley's Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers
states the following about the maker.
Apparut, Georges. Born 1877 at Juraincourt.
Son and pupil of Leon Apparut. Worked at the Ateliers of Blanchard at Lyons, 1896 - 1899 and with Mougenot at Brussels 1900 - 1903. Succeeded to the business of Charotte at Mirecourt 1925. Obtained gold medals at Nancy, Brussels, Metz, Gand and Paris. Diplomas of honour at other exhibitions. Interesting and high finished productions of thoroughly good art. A Marquis de Lair violin, circa 1925. £395.00 stock no. WP22
Sweet Lorainne.
These instruments have become quite hard to find over the last few years. They were produced by one of the Mirecourt workshops as copies of instruments by a much earlier maker. The condition of this example is very good with just a few small marks and imperfections to the varnish, the violin has the Marquis de Lair label and is also branded below the button on the back. The back length is 14 inches (35.6 cm.). Set up with Pro-Arte strings and supplied in a new light weight case. A violin with a sonorous sweet tone. Plays well and is good value!
