William Henley's Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers
states the following about the maker.
Emile MENNESSON, born Rheimms 1842, died 1920.
Worked in several ateliers in Paris. Established extensive premises in Mirecourt 1876-1881. Associated with Martin and Joseph Garini some years previously, ultimateley purchased the trade marks of that firm, henceforth he built his instruments under the pseudonym of Joseph Garini. Recipient of gold medals and "diplomas d'honneur" at European and American exhibitions. Modelling based on the Messie Strad. Spent many years perfecting his beautiful varnish.

A very nice quality violin in almost mint condition, from the workshops of Marc Laberte, fine tuned and sold by Justin Diter and bearing his label. The two piece back is 14.1/16 inches (35.6 cm.) in length, set up with fine ebony fittings and the original dark rosewood pegs. Fitted with new Dominant strings and supplied in a new lightweight case. The violin has a crisp lovely tone and is a pleasure to play. Recommended!
