William Henley's Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers
states the following about the maker.
Amédée Dieudonne. Born 1890.
Pupil of Gustave Bazin. Worked for Darche at Brussels. Established at Mirecourt 1924. Splendid hand-made replicas of ancient violins, faithfully depicting all familiar elements; rich and sheeny reddish/yellow or bright red varnish.
A Compagnon violin, circa 1910. £435.00 stock no. WP12
Bach Cantabile.
The Compagnon models were produced by the Jerome Thibouville-Lamy workshops from around 1910. This example is in good clean condition without damage or repairs, just varnish marks. Back length is: 14.1/8 inches (35.9cm.). Set up with ebony fittings, (apart from the chinrest) Pro-Arte strings and supplied in a new case. Nice to play, and with a deep sonorous bass tone. These violins have mellowed considerably since they were made at the turn of the century. Very good value!
