A fine bow by François Xavier Bazin. He was the first person along with his cousin Eustache to become bowmakers in the Bazin family. Born in 1824 in Mirecourt he moved to Paris and it is said that he served his appreticeship under the great Dominique Peccatte. This example of his work is an early bow, silver mounted, made around 1860, in beautiful condition, with a lovely strong pernambuco stick of a rich chestnut patina. The bow is signed BAZIN, it has a Vuillaume style frog and a superb ellegant tip in the style of Tourte. François Xavier Bazin was the father of Charles Nicolas Bazin. These bows are rare and very sought after by players and collectors.
