This instrument has a certificate of provenance from

Expert Près La Cour d'Appel de Paris.

A really lovely violin by Hippolyte Chrétien Silvestre and Ernest Maucotel, they became associated around 1901 and between them produced some really fine workmanship. This example of their work is based on the Amati model and is in near mint condition apart from some varnish wear, mainly to the upper right rib from playing. The strongly flamed two piece back measures: 14.1/8 inches (35.9 cm). The violin is finished in a beautiful rich lustrous warm brown oil varnish. The violin has the original rosewood pegs with other parts in ebony and a new set of Obligato strings have been fitted. Supplied in a new lightweight parallel case. A superb instrument to play, with a rich full tone, good bass depth and a clear singing treble.  A lovely violin, for the collector and Professional player!
