A quality Mirecourt violin labelled Pierre Gauthie, dated 1910. £1,250.00 stock no. WP48
Sarabande in G minor by C.Bohm.
The label is inscribed:
PIERRE GAUTHIE Luthier
Mirecourt anno 1918

This is not a maker whose work I have seen before however it is a well made instrument, he worked in Mirecourt and Paris and settled in Toulouse later in life. It is very much in the style of the Mirecourt makers of this period and with attention to detail and good carving. The back length is: 14.1/8 inches, (35.8 cm). There is no damage or repairs apart from one small split above the left F hole which is probably an ancient grain crack, also one small wing crack repair. The fittings are in ebony, set up with Pro-Arte strings and is supplied in a new lightweight case. A powerful violin with balance and clarity of sound. Good value for a hand made violin!
