William Henley's Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers
states the following about the maker.
Augustin Claudot born Mirecourt 1776.
Brother of Charles Claudot. Worked in Paris for some time. Workmanship excellent up to a degree. Large Lupot model. Yellow, chestnut brown or orange colour varnish of a clear texture. Good quality timber. instruments favoured by orchestrall players. Died 1843.

Good quality Guarnerius copy, circa 1920. £875.00 stock no. WP48
Sarabande in G minor by C.Bohm.
This is an excellent labelled Guarnerius copy in a warm dark cherry colour, made in Mirecourt around 1920, it is full size but only just, ideal for the petite violinist. In excellent condition without any repairs, just some minor varnish imperfections. The back length is 13.15/16 inches (35.3cm.), fine quality rosewood fittings, an ebony fingerboard, new Pro-Arte strings and supplied in a new case. This is a very clear toned violin, smooth and crisp with good volume. A nice instrument, recommended!
