William Henley's Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers
states the following about the maker.
Bailly Jenny.
Daughter, pupil and successor of Paul Bailly. Established at Paris 1900 - 1927. Violins, violas and cellos made entirely by hand - assemblage of details quite harmonious. Clever and faithful imitations of the Cremonas, Lupot and Vuillaume, neatest workmanship. Whole scale of warm-looking varnish shades applied to give an illusion of the ancient. Strong tonal quality - pure and harmogeneous.
An excellent violin by Pailliot, circa 1830. £2,250.00 stock no. WP40
Méditation de Thais.

An interesting good quality violin made by Pailliot and branded inside on the back Pailliot à Paris, although he was known to have worked in Mirecourt he always branded as if from Paris. His violins were robustly made with a tone to match the construction. In very good condition, there has been two minor crack repairs to the lower left bout but otherwise just minor varnish blemishes and some discolouration to the wood on the back, these darker marks within the grain are often seen in maple from this period, it is usually caused by curing the wood on end rather than flat! The one piece back is 14.3/16 inches long (36 cm., The fittings are in rosewood including the chinrest, set up with Dominant strings and supplied in a new light weight case. This instrument has a lovely deep rich tone with good balance and lots of power. An early instrument of character, recommended!
