William Henley's Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers
states the following about the maker.
Bailly Jenny.
Daughter, pupil and successor of Paul Bailly. Established at Paris 1900 - 1927. Violins, violas and cellos made entirely by hand - assemblage of details quite harmonious. Clever and faithful imitations of the Cremonas, Lupot and Vuillaume, neatest workmanship. Whole scale of warm-looking varnish shades applied to give an illusion of the ancient. Strong tonal quality - pure and harmogeneous.
Stainer copy, circa 1900. £395.00 stock no. WP40
From Haydn Concerto in G.
A well made Stainer copy in good condition with a warm glowing red/brown varnish over an amber ground and with an "antiqued" look to the varnish. No repairs just some varnish imperfections. The back measures: 14.3/16 inches, (36cm). Set up with new Pro-Arte strings and supplied in a new lightweight case. A pleasant violin to play with that typical Stainer tone, vibrant and with good clarity. A decent violin at a very affordable price!
