William Henley's Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers
states the following about the maker.
Amédée Dieudonne. Born 1890.
Pupil of Gustave Bazin. Worked for Darche at Brussels. Established at Mirecourt 1924. Splendid hand-made replicas of ancient violins, faithfully depicting all familiar elements; rich and sheeny reddish/yellow or bright red varnish.
School of Salzard, circa 1840. £1,350.00 stock no. WP26
Bach Alemande from Partita No.2.
An early Mirecourt violin in the style of François Salzard. The actual maker is unknown but this is a violin with character that produces a good tone. The back is one piece, length 14.3/16 inches (35.9 cm.), The fittings are in rosewood including the chinrest, set up with Dominant strings and supplied in a new light weight case. The condition is good although there are a couple of ancient repaired cracks in the upper right bout. This instrument has a lovely warm and sonorous deep bass with a lyrical treble and is crystal clear in the high positions. A good violin that is a pleasure to play!
