A superb violin by François Claudot made in 1927. The name Claudot was synonomous with violin making, they were a large family all working in Mirecourt from 1750 to around 1937. One member even moved to Glasgow! François was one of the best, he studied under Gand and Bernardel from 1881 until 1886 then established his workshops at Dijon in 1889. He was appointed master luthier to the conservatoire and eventually died in 1937. This example of his work is in near mint condition, no repairs or damage just very minor marks. The back measurement is:14.1/16 inches (35.7 cm.) Set up with Dominant strings top quality rosewood fittings of which the pegs are original and supplied in a new case. It is a delight to play, it has a sonorous balanced tone with good clarity to the treble and plenty of volume. Very fine workmanship, highly recommended!
