A violin by Charles Plumerel, circa 1840. £1,550.00 stock no. WP07
Sarabande in G minor by K.Bohm.
A mid 19th. century violin by Charles Plumerel. This is a rare and interesting instrument, The maker worked at Angers from 1822 until 1852 which is where this violin was made, after that time he moved to Dunkirk. His instruments are very similar in style to J.B.Vuillaume and was noted for his Italian style varnish. The back length is: 14.1/8 inches, (35.8 cm). In good sound condition without damage apart from a button repair, other than this just varnish marks. The photos do not really do this violin justice, the back and scroll are a bit darker and the front is a bit lighter than it appears. The violin has been set up with Dominant strings and is supplied in a new lightweight case. It has a clear lyrical tone with a warm bass and a good breadth of expression. Something a bit different!
