Eugène Langonet.

Born in Mirecourt in 1875.

He was born in Mirecourt in 1875 and was the brother of Louis and Charles Langonet and son of François Langonet. He originally learned his craft with Paul Jean Baptiste Chipot, the famous J.B.Vuillaume and Paul Mougenot, all fine makers of the day. After his apprenticeship he was employed, along with his brother Charles, by his former pupil Alfred Ebsworth Hill in London. He stayed with Hill for 5 years.

Eugène Langonet then returned to Paris to work for Sylvestre and Maucotel. In 1910 he established his own workshops in the city of Nantes where he was still active in the 1950s. He was said to be a modest man but also an excellent maker, careful and well respected by many of the experts of the day. He was known for his red brownish varnish and his attention to fine detail.

Eugène Langonet violins are quite rare, we have one example on this web site, please see the link below.
